God of War: Chains of Olympus

For my one-week vacation, I wish I could say that I've been having a lazy day under the sun, drinking, partying, eating non-stop...

... but I've been holed up in my bedroom playing what is widely perceived as the number one PSP game of all time: God of War: Chains of Olympus (see rankings here: 1, 2).

In the first few seconds that I was playing it, I couldn't help but mutter, "OMG, OMG" because the graphics were just unbelievable -- it's like a Zack Snyder-slash-Michael Bay film with a Spartan hero as the protagonist and a helluva musical score.

Here's the trailer:

That is EXACTLY how it looks when you're playing the game --- the camera zooms during the goriest of your killing sprees, it pans to offer a breathtaking view of ancient ruins and temples. There are explosions everywhere, shrieking men and women and gasp --- even sex and female nudity (it's my first time to see nipples in a game; there are, I think, about three pairs in this one.)

You will be playing Kratos, who is pretty much duped by the gods, mainly Helios and Athena, into doing tasks that range from protecting the city of Sparta; bringing back the sun stolen by Hades, god of the Underworld; to forcing Atlas to carry the world on his shoulder. While a high percentage of the game is focused on brutal combat --- his "blades of chaos" and "gauntlet of Zeus" certainly come in handy --- about 20 percent of the game is focused on solving puzzles, like how to open gates and move to the next level; so the game does take some mind skills as well. (Believe me, I got a migraine from all the thinking requirements it had me do --- I didn't want to ruin the pleasure of finding the solutions by way of Google :-P)

It took me about 8 hours to finish the game in Easy mode, but would probably take me forever to unlock the video trailers and bonus games by playing the extremely Hard mode. Overall, the critics aren't exaggerating when they say this is the best PSP game available.

i've been contemplating on buying a PSP. But i still can't drag my feet to the store. My biggest concern: is it going to improve my quality of life? whatchathink? :-)

heee! Masubukan nga. Ako I like playing Patapon (Pon-pon-pata-pon!) kasi parang dance dance revolution in PSP form, at ever since bano ako sa games. :)

i loooove god of war! it was the second game i ever completed on the ps2 (after final fantasy x), and i'm more than halfway through god of war 2 now.

the number of people with psps here in singapore is staggering. they buy psps to while away boredom on the mrt. kung mag-psp ka sa mrt sa pinas, bet natin masa-snatchan ka. haha.

dats -- haha, which mode are you on? grabe yung god mode, sooobrang hirap. i like this and tekken :-) (go Lily!)

deepa -- waaa, gusto ko na ng PS2 if only for god of war, haha.
